Welcome to Back Alley Fitness: Your Trusted Medicine Hat Gym for 11 Years! We’re a family-owned fitness haven specializing in strength training, affordable programs for all levels, and a supportive community fostering health and confidence.

Our Gym

Since our inception in January 2013, Back Alley Fitness has been the heartbeat of Medicine Hat’s fitness scene. What began as a few group classes centered around fitness and improving strength and endurance has evolved into a fitness sanctuary dedicated to real, sustainable results. In a world obsessed with quick fixes, we champion a different approach—one that builds lasting habits for a healthy, vibrant life.

At Back Alley Fitness, we redefine success, encouraging you to focus on the barbell’s weight rather than the scale’s. We infuse fun into fitness, making you crave the empowering feeling of challenging yourself. Our community thrives on shared goals and mutual encouragement, creating lasting friendships within our walls.

With 30 diverse weekly classes – from resistance training to HIIT circuit to cardio kickboxing – and 24-hour access, we prioritize flexibility and inclusivity. Over 11 years, we’ve expanded to offer powerlifting, youth programs, bootcamps, nutrition coaching, and personal training.

So happy to be back at the best gym around. It’s not just the great classes with a trainer or the 24-hour access or the superb equipment. It’s also got the most awesome people. So glad I found a place like BAF. They accommodate all fitness levels, and I never felt out of place while using this gym. The gym is smaller, but there is always a spot to be utilized, and the members are so courteous to each other. I never had an issue with customer service when I was first getting set up with the gym, so long as I stopped by or called during office hours. And the absolute cherry on top for me is the amazing childminding offered to members. It was hard to find a great gym with a spot where you could leave your children worry-free, but BAF is it!

Meet Our Team

Ally

Owner + Nutrition Coach

Ally founded BAF 11 years ago and loves coaching group classes. She is a record holding powerlifter, third degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, and a massive Disney enthusiast. Ally loves seeing clients get out of the cycle of restrictive dieting and feel confident and strong while also enjoying foods they love! Ally is the person behind most of the BAF social media and blog articles.

Colin

Owner + Strength Coach

Colin joined the BAF family in 2013. He has a background in Chinese martial arts and believes strength is the mother of all qualities. Being stronger makes it easier to be leaner, faster, and more muscular and athletic. Colin is the head coach of our competitive powerlifting team and runs our Jr. Powerlifting program for youth athletes.

Rachel

Fitness Instructor + Personal Trainer

Rachel has been part of our team since 2022 and is passionate about helping people move better! She is a Pain Free Performance Specialist certified coach and loves bringing mobility into our Muscle Max and Met Con classes. Rachel runs our Learn to Lift youth training program and does private and semi-private training for clients who want individualized attention towards their goals.

Teresa

Fitness Instructor + Doctor of Chiropractics

Teresa has been a long time member of BAF turned coach. She is a record holding powerlifter and we share custody of her with the amazing Kinetic Center where she treats patients in a variety of Chiropractic therapies to keep them moving and loving life! She brings an amazing level of expertise about movement and injury prevention and rehab to our classes and members.
